\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 The Department of History, Faculty of Social Sciences, Naresuan University is one of the most-long standing history department in Thailand with its history that could get back to 1969. Today, Department of history offers BA program in History and MA and PhD Programs in Southeast Asian studies.\u00a0<\/p>

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 The Department of history seeks to provide students with a good overview of the development of the modern world in different regions such as Europe, US, South Asia, East Asia and Southeast Asia with an insight knowledge on Thai history and the Lower Northern region history. Our graduates have careers in government, public service, teaching, libraries and researching, as well as in private sectors such as writing and journalistic works and tourism business. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 The graduate program in Southeast Asian Studies at Naresuan University is the area-based interdisciplinary program, covering in multiscape of thought-system, philosophy, civilization, history, economics, politics, society, culture, ethnicities, language, environment, etc.<\/p>

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 The Southeast Asian studies program aims to be a centre for Southeast Asian research and helps produce the skilled, in-depth researchers and new bodies of knowledge related to the ASEAN Community and the Southeast Asian region. In short, the program aims to:<\/p>

  1. To develop the human resources in research on the ASEAN community and the Southeast Asian region that engaged with the educational and developmental policies of the country<\/li>
  2. To develop the interdisciplinary knowledge and research on the ASEAN community and the Southeast Asian region, on both the national and international interests<\/li>
  3. To connect with the Southeast Asian studies network, both with national and international agencies.<\/li><\/ol>

    \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 The department now matriculates about 10 MA and 5 PhD students a year, both Thai and foreigners. Comparatively small incoming classes allow for close relationships with faculty, as well as individually tailored courses of study. Our graduate students also receive opportunities to teach, both as TAs and on their own at Naresuan University and other area colleges and universities.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Naresuan University Centre for Southeast Asian Studies at the regional level in Southeast Asia, Thailand has allied with its neighboring countries in founding the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations – ASEAN as a regional organization in coordinating the economies, socio-political and cultural cooperation with an ultimate goal to establish the ASEAN Community in 2015. With an awareness of the upcoming socio-economic changes within the region as well as its knowledge necessity, The Naresuan University History Department which situates on the strategic inland routes of Phitsanulok Province to connect with Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar and even China has thus launched the newly graduate program, MA and PhD, in Southeast Asian studies. And in order to help generate a platform for the academic exchanges among young researchers and visiting research fellows, the Department of History has also instituted Naresuan University Centre for Southeast Asian Studies – NUSS.
